Claude & ChatGPT

Connect SelfPub Go to Claude and ChatGPT. Ask about your ads in plain words.

SelfPub Go works as an MCP server for Claude and ChatGPT. Connect it once and the assistant can read your books, book projects, Amazon Ads campaigns, search terms and ranks as SelfPub Go keeps them, and propose changes that happen only after you say yes in the chat.

Before you start

What you need before you connect

New to SelfPub Go? The setup guide walks from an account to a dashboard with your own numbers; the app itself is on the downloads page.

  • A SelfPub Go account with Amazon Ads connected

You connect Amazon Ads in the SelfPub Go app for macOS or Windows. The assistant works with what the app has brought in for that account.

  • Claude

You add SelfPub Go once as a custom connector. Some plans limit how many custom connectors you can add; on Team and Enterprise an Owner adds it for the organization.

  • ChatGPT

A paid plan. In a ChatGPT workspace, its settings decide whether members may add custom MCP servers.

Claude

Connect Claude

The connection belongs to the SelfPub Go account you sign in with, so use the same one as in the app. If Claude says a connector with this address already exists, close that window and press Connect next to SelfPub Go.

  1. 01

Start from the SelfPub Go app

Open Settings → Connect AI and press Connect next to Claude. The app signs this browser in to the account you use in the app and opens Claude’s Add custom connector window with the name and address filled in. Press Add.

  2. 02

    Or add it by hand

In Claude, open Customize → Connectors and choose Add custom connector. Name it SelfPub Go, paste https://mcp.selfpubgo.com/mcp and press Add.

  3. 03

    Sign in on selfpubgo.com

Press Connect next to SelfPub Go. Claude opens our sign-in page; use the account you use in the SelfPub Go app.

  4. 04

    Check the screen, then Allow

It names the app, the address your data goes to and your account. Keep Allow changes ticked to let Claude propose and apply changes after your yes, or untick it for read-only access.

  5. 05

    Ask your first question

Start a new chat and try: “What went well and what went wrong with my ads in the last 2 days?”

ChatGPT

Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT adds SelfPub Go as a custom MCP server and shows its own notice for servers you add yourself. The sign-in and the Allow screen are ours, on selfpubgo.com.

  1. 01

Start from the SelfPub Go app

Open Settings → Connect AI and press Connect next to ChatGPT. The app copies the server address and opens ChatGPT’s Plugins page.

  2. 02

    Add a custom MCP server

In Plugins, press + and add a custom MCP server. Name it SelfPub Go and paste https://mcp.selfpubgo.com/mcp.

  3. 03

    Confirm and create

Keep OAuth as the sign-in method, read ChatGPT’s notice about custom servers, confirm it and create the plugin.

  4. 04

    Sign in and Allow

Choose Continue to SelfPub Go, sign in on selfpubgo.com, check the details and press Allow.

  5. 05

    Use it in a chat

Type @ in the message box, pick SelfPub Go and ask your question.

In the chat

What you can ask

Ask in your own words; the assistant picks the tools. It works with the same data as the ads and analytics screens of the app, and every answer says how fresh its data is.

What went well and what went wrong with my ads in the last 2 days? The last two full days against a usual day of the week before: spend, sales, orders and ACOS, with up to three good and three bad points, biggest money first.
Which search terms spent money without a sale this month? The search terms shoppers typed, with clicks, spend and orders, and the words that keep spending without selling.
Is my paperback profitable at $14.99?Royalty per sale, break-even ACOS and the highest cost per click that still pays, for the paperback, hardcover and Kindle editions — the same calculation as the book page in the app.
Why is this campaign not getting impressions? The reasons SelfPub Go can see: paused, out of budget, a book that can’t be advertised and similar.
Where do my books rank for the keywords I track?Best Sellers Rank, rating, review count and tracked keyword positions, each with how old the reading is.
Lower bids by 10% on keywords above 60% ACOS.A proposal: every keyword with its bid now and after. Nothing changes until you say yes.
How are my books in progress and my new releases doing? The launch board: saved ideas, books being made with their release-plan steps and costs, and new books’ first 30 days — ads since release against break-even ACOS, the main keyword’s position, BSR.
Find niches for a cozy mystery in the US store.Niches with estimated searches a month, competition, a verdict and what a top book earns. Estimates; fresh lookups have a daily limit.
Check my new book’s title, subtitle and keywords against KDP’s rules.Lengths, words KDP doesn’t accept, the description’s HTML, the seven keyword fields and how many of the book’s keywords the texts cover. Nothing is saved.
Launch ads for my new book.A proposal of up to three Sponsored Products campaigns — automatic, the project’s keywords and competing books — with every keyword, bid and budget. After your yes they start spending; undo pauses them.

Every connection can see

  • Your books
  • Your book ideas, book projects and release plans, with the texts you prepared for Amazon
  • Campaigns, keywords and targets
  • Ad results — spend, sales, ACOS and the rest, for any period
  • Search terms shoppers typed before clicking your ads, and the ones SelfPub Go found off-topic
  • Where your books rank on Amazon
  • Your Amazon Ads billing status
  • Your account’s name and email address

With Allow changes, it can also propose

  • Bids, budgets, bidding strategy and Amazon rules
  • Pause or restart campaigns, ad groups, ads and keywords
  • Negative keywords, new keywords and targets
  • New campaigns, ad groups and ads — Sponsored Products, Brands and Display
  • A new book’s ads launch — its campaigns start spending once created
  • Book ideas: save one, start a book from it, tick its checklist
  • Your books’ details, prices, keyword lists, notes and tasks in SelfPub Go
Changes

How changes work: propose, confirm, apply, undo

Allow changes is ticked for Claude and ChatGPT on our sign-in screen; untick it and the connection only reads. You can switch changes on or off later for each app in the SelfPub Go app, Settings → Connect AI.

  1. 01

    Proposal

The assistant asks SelfPub Go for a proposal. Nothing changes yet: you get every item with its value now and after, plus warnings — a bid three times higher than before, for example.

  2. 02

    Your yes

The assistant shows you the proposal and waits for a clear yes in the chat. Claude and ChatGPT also ask you before they run the action itself.

  3. 03

    Apply

SelfPub Go makes the change through the same actions as the buttons in the app. An item whose value changed after the proposal is skipped, not overwritten. Campaigns from a new book’s ads launch start spending once created.

  4. 04

    Record and undo

Each change lands in the app’s change history, marked as made by AI. Ask to undo it and the assistant proposes the reverse — for launched campaigns, a pause — again for your yes. Permanent changes, such as archiving, need a second yes.

Boundaries

What the assistant can't do

The connection is narrow on purpose: one author's advertising and book data, and changes only through proposals you approve.

Royalties, on your computer only

In Claude Desktop, the SelfPub Go app can add a small extension so Claude reads your royalty and profit numbers from the app on the same computer: read-only, and the numbers never pass through SelfPub Go servers. What Claude reads goes into your chat with Claude, like anything else you share there. Turn it on in Settings → Connect AI → Royalties for Claude on this computer.

  • See your KDP royalty reports. They stay in the SelfPub Go app on your computer.
  • Change anything without your yes. Without Allow changes it only reads.
  • Change your sign-in, billing, payment details or Amazon connection.
  • Edit or publish your book in KDP. It checks your texts against KDP’s rules; the book details and prices it changes are SelfPub Go’s records.
  • See another author’s data. It works only with the account you connected.
  • Read your chats. SelfPub Go gets only the requests the assistant sends to its tools.

Your data and privacy

The full wording is in our Privacy Policy, and how the service is protected is on the security page.

What the assistant receives
The answers to its requests: figures about your books, campaigns, search terms, ranks and Amazon Ads billing status. From the sign-in it also gets your account's name and email address.
Where it goes
To the AI provider you chose: Anthropic for Claude, OpenAI for ChatGPT. It is handled under that provider's terms and your settings there; they are your choice, not companies SelfPub Go sends your data to on its own.
What SelfPub Go records
For each request: which tool was called, the size of the request and the answer, how many rows, how long it took, whether it worked and when. Not your questions and not the answers. The log is kept while your account exists and deleted with it. Changes made through the assistant go to your change history, like changes made in the app.
Control

Disconnect or change access

A disconnected app loses access at its next request, even if it still holds a sign-in token.

  • In the SelfPub Go app: Settings → Connect AI → Disconnect next to the app.

  • On the website: Connected AI → Disconnect.

  • Read only or changes: switch changes on or off for each app in Settings → Connect AI.

  • In Claude or ChatGPT: remove SelfPub Go under Customize → Connectors in Claude or under Plugins in ChatGPT, so it stops offering to connect.

FAQ

Questions about Claude and ChatGPT

Is this Amazon’s own MCP server?

No. This is SelfPub Go’s server. It answers from the copy of your Amazon Ads data that SelfPub Go keeps for your account, adds SelfPub Go’s own numbers such as break-even ACOS, and makes changes through the same connection to the Amazon Ads API that the SelfPub Go app uses.

Are the numbers live?

Mostly they come from SelfPub Go’s copy of your data, kept fresh by the app’s sync, and every answer says how fresh it is. A few answers, such as Amazon’s suggested bids and budgets and its advice on campaigns, are read live from Amazon and count against a daily limit.

Can the assistant see my royalties?

Not through this connection: KDP royalty reports stay in the SelfPub Go app on your computer. In Claude Desktop you can let Claude read your royalty and profit numbers from that computer, read-only, by turning on Royalties for Claude on this computer in Settings → Connect AI.

Can it change my campaigns without asking?

No. Every change starts as a proposal that shows each item before and after, and it is applied only after your yes in the chat. With Allow changes off, the assistant can only read.

Can it help plan and launch a new book?

Yes. It reads your launch board and book projects, runs the KDP calculators for royalty, cover size, page count and sales from Best Sellers Rank, looks up niches and checks your title, description and keyword fields against KDP’s rules. With your yes it can save an idea, start a book from it, tick its checklist and launch its ads.

I connected the wrong SelfPub Go account. What now?

Disconnect it under Connected AI on selfpubgo.com or in the app, then connect again. On the sign-in screen, choose Use another account if the browser is signed in to the wrong one.

Claude says a connector with this address already exists.

Close that window and press Connect next to SelfPub Go in Customize → Connectors.

Why does the assistant say the connection can only read?

It was allowed without Allow changes. Switch changes on for that app in the SelfPub Go app, Settings → Connect AI, or connect again and keep Allow changes ticked.

Does it work with other AI apps?

Any app that connects to remote MCP servers with an OAuth sign-in can use the same address, Claude Code for example. Apps other than Claude and ChatGPT start with Allow changes unticked.
